Job Title: Finance Manager – Medical Laboratory Services
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reports To: Chief Finance Officer (CFO)

Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the financial operations of Pathcare Kenya Limited with precision and integrity, ensuring sound financial planning, reporting, compliance, and cost control tailored to the unique needs of a mediClinic diagnostic laboratory. The role will support the CFO in strategic decision-making through data-driven financial insights and play a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable growth and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning & Analysis
• Develop and manage annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term financial models aligned to laboratory service delivery.
• Conduct detailed cost and profitability analysis of lab tests, branches, and service lines.
• Monitor key financial metrics such as revenue per test, reagent/utilization efficiency, and turnaround time cost impact.
Financial Reporting
• Oversee timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and local statutory requirements.
• Prepare board-level reports and financial presentations with actionable insights on operational KPIs.
• Manage internal and external audits ensuring timely resolution of audit issues.
Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)
• Collaborate with operations and billing teams to optimize invoicing, collections, and credit control.
• Ensure accuracy of billing for B2B clients (hospitals, corporates) and cash-pay patients.
• Monitor and reduce days sales outstanding (DSO) and lab service-related write-offs.
Cost Management & Procurement Support
• Review cost drivers such as reagent usage, consumables, utilities, and personnel costs.
• Work closely with supply chain and lab heads to evaluate vendor performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Support make-versus-buy decisions for tests and laboratory equipment investments.
Risk Management & Compliance
• Implement internal controls and ensure compliance with financial, tax, and regulatory policies relevant to the healthcare/lab sector.
• Monitor financial risks including currency exposure, insurance coverage, and tax obligations.
Team Leadership
• Lead the finance team, ensuring continuous upskilling and adherence to best practices in healthcare finance.
• Foster collaboration across departments (operations, IT, HR, clinical) to support cross-functional initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:
Academic Credentials:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or an MBA will be considered a strong advantage.
Professional Certification:
• CPA (K), ACCA, or an equivalent globally recognized accounting qualification is mandatory. Membership in good standing is required.
Experience:
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role.
• Experience within a Big 4 audit firm (PWC, EY, Deloitte, or KPMG) or a similarly rigorous professional environment will be highly valued, especially exposure to healthcare, diagnostics, or regulated industries.
Technical Proficiency:
• Demonstrated hands-on experience working with ERP/accounting systems (such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or QuickBooks Enterprise).
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and integration with financial systems is an added advantage.
• Healthcare Finance Expertise:
• A strong working knowledge of healthcare billing practices, medical insurance claims, and tax regulations applicable to medical services in Kenya is essential.
