Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Ruiru, Kenya
Reports To: Board
Collaborates Closely With: SME Leadership Teams, Executive Assistant
About Us
A newly established and strategically evolving local Kenyan entity established to centralize the
strategic and financial management of a portfolio of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
These enterprises primarily operate in the financial services sector (MPESA, agency banking, and a
microfinance operation) and the agriculture sector (with a focus on agri-logistics). We aim to build a
robust, efficient, and transparent structure that supports sustainable growth across all business units
while aligning with the family’s long-term vision.
Job Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a critical leadership role in overseeing all financial
operations across the various SMEs under the family office. This individual will serve as a strategic
financial advisor to the family, providing insights and direction on budgeting, investments, tax
planning, and risk management.
As this is a newly created position, the role will evolve over time through learning by doing and will
be reviewed after the first year of implementation.
Reporting Line
The CFO will report directly to the family board and will work in close collaboration with the
leadership teams of the individual SMEs. The role will require balancing the interests of operational
efficiency within each SME and the overarching strategic goals of the family office.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the family’s long-term objectives,
including budgeting, forecasting, and investment planning.
• Ensure compliance with Kenyan tax laws by managing and optimizing tax strategies.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks through proper planning, including insurance coverage and
business diversification.
• Oversee the preparation and consolidation of accurate and transparent financial reports from
the individual SMEs, ensuring adherence to relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
• Act as a trusted financial advisor to the family, offering strategic guidance on financial
decision-making, investment opportunities, and capital allocation.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Professional certification: CPA (K) or ACCA is mandatory.
• A Master’s degree in Finance, Business, or Economics is an added advantage.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in a
supervisory or leadership role.
• In-depth understanding and practical experience with Kenyan financial and tax regulations.

• Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and best practices
in budgeting and financial analysis.
