Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is a Commercial and Strategic State Corporation mandated to maintain, operate, improve and regulate all sea and inland waterports in Kenya. KPA aims to position the port of Mombasa as a competitive regional hub. The Port of Mombasa is a gateway to East and Central Africa and is one of the busiest Ports along the East African coast. The port serves the landlocked countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and parts of Ethiopia and DRC.
In support of the Kenya Vision 2030, KPA has embarked on a multi-billion modernization of its port facilities, with the aim of establishing a world-class port that meets international standards.

ARTISAN

Job Specifications
This is the entry grade for Artisans. Artisans in this cadre may be deployed to perform duties in any of the following functional areas:
A. Mechanical (Plumbers, Fitters, Welders & Fabricators)
- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out daily safety checks on equipment.
- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance.
- Assist Senior Artisans in recording equipment maintenance data.
- Assist Senior Artisans in undertaking housekeeping and cleaning of equipment and tools.
- Assist Senior Artisans in receiving equipment, materials, and components production data.
- Assist Senior Artisans in performing occupational safety, health, and environment duties.
- Assist Senior Artisans in welding and fabrication of equipment and infrastructure components.
- Assist Senior Artisans in tracing, sorting and carrying materials from stores to working area.
B. Electrical
- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out daily safety checks on equipment.

D. Carpentry & Joinery/Aluminium
- Assist Senior Artisans in selecting tools and materials.
- Assist Senior Artisans in timers and aluminum before joint work and painting.
- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out planned maintenance of woodwork and aluminum.
- Assist Senior Artisans in recording equipment maintenance data.
- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out daily check of maintenance defects in Marine vessels, equipment and civil infrastructure.

E. Masonry
- Assist Senior Artisans in selecting tools and materials.
- Assist Senior Artisans in material presentations before process.
- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out planned maintenance of masonry works.

- Assist Senior Artisans in carrying out daily checks of maintenance defects in buildings, civil engineering and marine structures.
F. Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, a person must have:
- KCSE or Its Equivalent
- Proficiency in Computer applications.
- Government Trade Test III or equivalent from a recognized institution,
- Proficiency in seabed or being in possession of a Dispatcher Book while necessary.
- Filling the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
- Age: 34 - 39 years and below.
TECHNICIAN
Department: Engineering Services/Infrastructure Development
Grade: KPI 8
Terms of Service: Persornable
Remuneration (Kshs.) -
Basic Salary: 75,160.00 - 105,761.00
House Allowance: 325,700.00
Motor Transport Allowance: 1,200,000.00
Job Specifications
This is the entry grade for Technicians. Technicians in this cadre may be deployed to perform duties in any of the following:
1. Mechanical:
- Assist the Senior Technician in implementing maintenance programmes and keeping records of maintenance jobs undertaken.
- Assist the Senior Technician during emergency repairs of the infrastructure/marine crafts/ equipment.
- Make regular reports on jobs executed.
- Assist the Senior Technician in carrying out check on tools and make inventory of required tools for various tasks.
2. Electrical:
- Assist the Senior Technician in inspecting electrical installation/marine crafts/equipment assigned areas.
- Assist the Senior Technician during preventative maintenance or equipment; ensure it will be scheduled, checked and documented.
- Assist the Senior Technician in ensuring emergency or breakdown repairs are carried out promptly.
- Assist the Senior Technician in ensuring safety use of electrical equipment and availability of necessary accessories.
3. Mechanical:
- Assist the Senior Technician in preparing specifications for materials used in civil engineering, building and maintenance work.
- Assist the Senior Technician in carrying out civil, civil engineering and petroleum work as when and where required.
- Assist Technician in carrying out inspection of civil materials.
4. Projects:
- Assist the Senior Technician in collecting data for design project.
- Assist the Senior Technician in preparing daily site records and weekly project status reports.
- Assist the Senior Technician in planning and implementing successful completion of project activities and availability of necessary resources.
5. Instrumentation & Control (I&C)
- Assist the Senior Technician in carrying out repairs on equipment both in the field and in the workshop.
- Assist the Senior Technician in carrying out routine and planned maintenance work.
- Assist the Senior Technician in troubleshooting faults and breakdowns of assigned systems.
- Prepare the daily reports on breakdowns and faults encountered in a timely manner.
- Maintain and evaluate the performance of staff and set targets and objectives and implement development plans and supervise staff at all levels of disciplines and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Make the daily inspection on the basis of preventive and corrective maintenance of various Safety guidelines and protocols.
6. Person Specifications
- KCSE or its equivalent.
- Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Civil, Permanent Ways, Building & Construction, Electrical, Electronics and Marine Engineering or its recognized equivalent.
- Proficiency in Computer applications.
- Fulfilling the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
ASSISTANT FERRY MASTER

Job Specifications
- Overall command of the vessel and in charge of the crew on-board.
- Safety of crew, passengers, and cargo onboard during peace and vessel while underway, anchorage and secured at the ramp.
- Observing Navigation safety.
- Attending to marine distress within reach.
- Seawatching the soundness of the ferry through pre- sail check before putting into service.
- Steering vessel during/both in-both or mooring/unmooring.
- Updating charts andManumoting in Marine ward.
- Disseminating instructions and information during emergencies.
- Disseminating relevant safety information, instructions and guidelines to ferry users onboard through the Public.
- During the vessel anti-ownership and vessel open flag, ensure comfort and safety in crew operations and in case of emergencies with no crew.
- Fulfilling the requirements of chapter six on the pass and corresponding security checks.
Person Specifications
- KCSE Certificate or its equivalent.
- Diploma in a Marine related field from a recognized University.
- Minimum of 4 years relevant working experience.
- Master Port Operation Certificate of Competency.
- Certificate of Competency (COC) Master Marine is an added advantage.
- Effective in Customer relations training in a added advantage.
- Certificate in Safety training.
- Knowledge of Maritime Law is an added advantage.
- Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Radio Certificate.
- Valid Medical certificate as prescribed by the Regulatory Agency (KMA).
- Relevant Standard Training for Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW CV).
- Fulfilling the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya.
