Description
“If your CV isn’t getting shortlisted, these small reasons might be why.”
1. Too long or too short CVs.
2. Missing Key Sections: Many Kenyan CVs lack:
· Skills section
· Achievements section
· Updated contacts
· LinkedIn link
· Referee statement (optional now)
3. Incomplete or missing education details.
Writing only “B.Tech” without the specialization (CS/IT etc.) makes your background unclear.
4. Your Professional Summary Is Weak or Generic
Statements like “I’m a hard-working and dedicated team player” don’t get interviews.
5. Skills Not Connected to Work Experience
Listing skills separately is helpful, but mentioning where you used them in your professional work experience provides real clarity.
6. No Work Duration (From–To Dates)
Always indicate the duration you worked.
7. Wrong Order of Experience
Your most recent role should always appear at the top.
8. Not Updating the CV
Don’t get tired of continuously updating and improving your CV.
9. Sharing CV in Word Instead of PDF
PDF keeps formatting intact across devices and looks more professional.
10. Formatting Issues
Long paragraphs or inconsistent formatting make a CV hard to read both by human eyes and ATS filters.
11. Unclear and unprofessional Email IDs
Use a simple, professional email ID. Avoid “17277name@…”.
12. Typos & Grammar Errors
Even small mistakes affect the first impression. Always proofread.
The CVs that stand out aren’t the fanciest ones they’re the clearest ones. Keep it updated, simple, and easy to read, and you’ll be noticed far more often.
