RECRUITMENT NOTICE

WARD VETERINARY SURGEONS AND VETERINARY PARA PROFESSIONALS
FOR SIAYA COUNTY FMD VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

Positions: 78 Veterinary Para-Professional (VPP) – Approximately, 2,000 animals per VPP
Positions: 30 Ward Veterinary Surgeon – 1 Position per Ward
Engagement Type: Performance-Based (Paid Per Animal Serviced) Contract
Service Location: Wards under the Management of the Marketing Cooperative Society (FPO)

Background
The County Government in collaboration with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) and the Directorate of Veterinary Services invite qualified and licensed Veterinarians and Veterinary Para-professionals to apply to participate in the upcoming Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination campaign. The applications shall be done through the selected Marketing Cooperatives (FPOs). The Veterinary Surgeons (VSs) will supervise Ward Veterinary Para Professionals (VPPs), and VPPs will carry out e-voucher registration and vaccination for FMD of approximately 2,000 cattle owned by farmers within the ward. The VSs and VPPs will be compensated based on the number of cattle vaccinated, with detailed records submitted to the FPO and County Director of Veterinary Services weekly for verification and payment.

Key Responsibilities for VPPs
The VPP will be expected to provide the following services:
1. Vaccination Programs
- Register cattle for e-voucher vaccination
- Plan and administer scheduled vaccines
- Ensure proper cold chain management and accurate documentation
- Daily reporting

Other Responsibilities
2. Pest Management
- Control and manage external parasites (e.g., ticks, flies) and advise on integrated pest control measures

3. Internal Parasite Management
- Implement deworming protocols
- Monitor parasite levels and educate farmers on preventive strategies

4. Disease Management
- Diagnose, treat, and monitor livestock diseases under Vet. Surgeon Supervision
- Provide farmer education on disease prevention and reporting

Qualifications and Required Skills for VPPs
- Certificate, Diploma or BSc in Animal Health, Animal Health & Production.
- Good communication, farmer engagement, and Extension skills
- Ability to keep detailed service records and report accurately
- Willingness to work in rural and field-based settings
- Fluency in local language(s) is an added advantage
- Must be registered with Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB)
- Must be in possession of Smart Phone, Android version 10 and above

Key Responsibilities for Veterinary Surgeons (VSs)
• Guide Animal Health Assistants and monitor service delivery performance during vaccination campaign
• Maintain livestock health records and submit regular technical reports
• Liaise with county veterinary departments and relevant stakeholders
• Provide veterinary services including clinical diagnosis, treatment, and minor surgeries
• Coordinate disease surveillance, outbreak response, and vaccination campaigns
• Supervise pest and internal parasite control initiatives

Qualifications and Required Skills for Veterinary Surgeons (VSs)
• Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from a recognized university
• Must be registered and licensed by the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB)
• At least 2 years’ experience in veterinary practice, preferably in field-based or rural Livestock programs
• Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills
• Proficient in digital reporting and basic data management
• Knowledge of community-based livestock programs is an added advantage

Performance
• Target animals in Siaya County are cattle.
• Accurate and verifiable records must be submitted regularly.
• Performance reviews will be conducted periodically.
